To help you navigate through the world of Scotch whiskies in their various guises we have compiled this guide to outline the categories and how to understand them. Most whisky adventurers with have a rough idea of the difference between a single malt whisky and a blended whisky, but what is a single grain whisky how does it relate to malt whisky?
The whisky making process is not necessarily a complicated one. To answer the questions how is whisky made and what is whisky made from, it is easiest to break it down into six stages; malting, milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation and maturation. Please note we will be discussing malt Scotch whisky and not whiskey.
The approach we take at Whiskybosh is that 'best' is purely dependent upon the moment. What may be best in one moment may not be best in the next. Take the same whisky and taste it at different times throughout the year, try it when you are really looking forward to it, try it when it is the last thing you feel like drinking.
